Minneapolis Police Warn Of Scam Using MPD's Phone Number

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police are warning the public of a scam that uses the department's phone number.

Police say they've received reports from people who said they were contacted by someone claiming to be with the IRS. The caller ID shows the Fifth Precinct main number: 612-673-5705.

"No government agency will ever call you asking for personal information like credit card numbers, bank account numbers, social security numbers, or more," police said in a statement. "Do not give personal information to anyone who calls or emails you unexpectedly, even if they claim they are with an official government organization or bank."
