Mpls. Police: Officer Fires Round At Armed Person, No One Hurt

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police say no one was hurt after an officer opened fire on an person who they said was armed.

Police say officers saw a group of people on the 3000 block of Colfax Avenue North just after 7 p.m. One of the people in the group appeared to be armed with a handgun.

The officers say the group scattered as they approached who they described as an "armed individual." Officers pursued the person for a couple blocks, and say they were scared when the person appeared to pull out the weapon. One of the officers then fired a single round at the person on the 3000 block of Aldrich Avenue North, which missed him.

No one was hurt, and the person quickly and peacefully surrendered to officers. The handgun was recovered, and the person was taken to Hennepin County Jail. They were described as being male, but police did not clarify their apparent age.

Police say body camera footage will be viewed as part of the investigation.
