Minneapolis Plans For Huge National Night Out Turnout

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Tuesday is National Night Out, and hundreds of Minnesota cities are planning celebrations at a time.

The Minneapolis Police Department is looking to extend its three-year streak of having the most participants out of any major U.S. city.

Last year there were almost 1,500 events where residents could meet their neighbors and interact with police.

This year's National Night Out comes at a time when homicides are up and questions have been raised about police brutality.

Minneapolis police say one of the goals of National Night Out is to encourage crime prevention.

You can find the National Night Out event near you here. And you may get lucky enough to meet police chief Janeé Harteau, who will be going from block to block throughout the city.
