Minneapolis Orange Line Project Gets $37.5 Million

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A proposed rapid-transit bus line on I-35W linking Burnsville to downtown Minneapolis survives another day.

A recent PR push worked, and the county's Transit Improvement Board voted to approve $37.5 million for the proposed Orange Line project. Board Chair and Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin says they can now apply for federal funding and work toward making the line -- which would send 90 buses an hour up and down I-35W -- a reality.

"There would be buses every 10 minutes in each direction during the day, just like the LRT," he said.

McLaughlin says they're still working on financial commitments from the state and Dakota County, which recently dropped off the Transit Improvement Board.
