Minneapolis Offering 24-Hour Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Service

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The City of Minneapolis said Wednesday it has started a program to provide wheelchair accessible taxicab service to the public.

The service, being provided by five local companies, is 24 hours a day and started on Feb. 1. The companies offering the service are receiving incentives, including reduced license fees, to be involved.

Mayor Betsy Hodges said the program is a great step in the right direction to increase accessibility for the city's residents.

City officials said the cab companies involved are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and charge the same fare as all other taxi companies. Currently, 23 cabs are participating in the program and all accept credit cards. The cab companies include Airport Taxi, Yellow Taxi, Green and White Taxi, Minneapple Taxi and La Mexicana Taxicab.
