Minneapolis Hosting City Of Lakes Loppet At Theodore Wirth Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you're getting outside this weekend, you're encouraged head over to one of the most fun events the City of Minneapolis has to offer.

Saturday is day two of the annual City of Lakes Loppet at Theodore Wirth Park. Piotr Dednarski, one of the organizers of the event, spent a few minutes with the WCCO Saturday morning show to talk about the day's events.

He said classic races will be taking place Saturday at Theodore Wirth Park, including the long race 42K as well as 25K and 10K races. The cold and new snow should make conditions near perfect for racing, Dednarski said.

He said they're expecting around 8,000 competitors over the course of the weekend, but around 2,000 for Saturday's races. They are also hosting a luminary Saturday night around Lake of the Isles, which is expected to be the largest event of the Loppet with about 6,500 participants.
