Border czar says 4,000 arrests made in Minnesota ICE surge, and more headlines

Two Minneapolis firefighters are being treated for burns suffered while battling a blaze Thursday morning at a two-story residence.

The Minneapolis Fire Department announced on social media just before 8 a.m. that crews had gathered off East 24th Street and Elliot Avenue, about a block north of Children's Minnesota hospital in the Phillips community.

Battalion Chief Rick Rivera tells WCCO one of the firefighters suffered "some significant burns." The other suffered "minor injuries," and both are being treated at an area hospital.

Two residents were treated at the scene for undisclosed injuries and weren't hospitalized.

"[Firefighters] made a pretty good, strong interior attack through that front door there. They really struggled with the heat inside," Rivera said. "Fire was pretty much to the backside of the house and started in one of the rooms, and then spread from there."

Rivera says the home is uninhabitable, and its five residents are currently seeking assistance.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, though Rivera says it appears there's "nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary" in the preliminary stage of the investigation.
