Minneapolis Farmers Market Opens For Business

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minneapolis Farmers Market opened up shop Saturday.

It was a chilly start, but hundreds still came out to enjoy the fresh foods.

About 30 local and global vendors set up today.

At its peak, the Minneapolis farmers market will hold about 170 vendors.

Farmers told us they've been selling more in the last few years because more people are eating local.

"Farmers markets are, they're just you know, a perfect place to come and get to know the farmer. Know where your foods coming from, know how it's produced," farmer Bob Dehn said.

"Yeah, we just moved closer. So one of the things that we really wanted to do was like, 'Hey, let's hit up the farmers market.' You know, buy local when we can and go that route," shopper Joe Lorence said.

The colder-than-average weather has impacted the ability to pick food from the ground.

Until it heats up, the vendors rely on their greenhouses for fresh produce.

The farmers market will be open seven days a week now through mid-November.
