Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition Hosts 'Open Streets'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Some Minneapolis streets took part in the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition's event 'Open Streets' Saturday.

The Open Streets event is run by volunteers with the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition.

For one weekend day during the summer, a city street is transformed into a car-free space.

Turf is rolled out for playing, walking and biking.

"I think it would be a lot nicer, as far as you're in your front yard and you can easily send your kids across the street to play with their friends on the other side," said resident Matthew Hendricks. "It wouldn't be as loud with traffic. It would just be a much calmer, nicer street to live on."

Saturday's event took place on the north Minneapolis Greenway.

'Open Streets' will continue through September 20.
