Minn. Man Gets New Date In Nevada Abduction Case

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A local judge in Nevada gave prosecutors more time Wednesday to file criminal charges against a Minnesota fugitive accused of holding his ex-girlfriend with threats of physical violence for several months at a resort town motel.

With Jason Edward Greniger already being held on a fugitive warrant, Mesquite Justice of the Peace Ryan Toone set a Feb. 26 deadline for local charges to be filed. A court clerk said Greniger was not appointed an attorney.

Greniger, 34, is being held at the Clark County Jail in Las Vegas on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping in the Mesquite case and on a fugitive warrant issued last July in Grand Rapids, Minn., in a felony child punishment case.

Greniger agreed Tuesday not to contest his transfer in custody to face charges in Minnesota if authorities seek his return.

He was arrested Saturday in Mesquite, a Nevada resort town about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, after his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend, Sheena Herschbach, told police he used threats to hold her against her will for about six months.

Herschbach told investigators she went to a nearby library and used Facebook to contact a family member in Minnesota and say she wanted to come home. The relative called police.

Prosecutors are looking at the relationship between Greniger and Herschbach, who had an active protective order that was issued last year in Minnesota against Greniger.

Herschbach told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she had three children with Greniger who were now living in foster care, and two children she had with another man were living with their father in Minnesota.

Herschbach told KTNV-TV in Las Vegas that she moved last summer to California, but Greniger followed and forced her into his car before they drove to Mesquite.
