Milwaukee PrideFest Breaks Attendance Record

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Event officials say a record number of visitors attended PrideFest Milwaukee over the weekend.

Officials said in a statement Monday that more than 33,400 people attended the three-day event honoring the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. This year's attendance broke the previous record set last year with more than 32,800 visitors.

PrideFest Milwaukee officials noted that thousands of people united Sunday at the city's 30th annual LGBT pride celebration to overcome the tragedy surrounding the mass shooting inside a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, which left 49 victims dead.

Security was ramped up at PrideFest Milwaukee in response to the shooting.
