Sheriff: Man Arrested In Fatal Mille Lacs Lake Resort Assault

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 44-year-old Brooklyn Center man has been arrested in connection to a deadly assault at a Mille Lacs Lake resort, according to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday at 1:06 a.m., the sheriff's office received multiple 911 calls reporting an unresponsive person at Nitti's Hunter's Point Resort, located at 5436 479th Street in East Side Township.

When deputies arrived, they found 46-year-old David Taute of Prior Lake unconscious and being loaded into an ambulance. When authorities looked at Taute, there was no obvious sign of trauma to his head, besides some blood in his mouth. He died later that morning at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies learned that Taute had a confrontation with David Stay just outside the resort around closing time. When authorities located Stay at the resort, he admitted to striking Taute on the left side of his face.

A surveillance video confirmed the confrontation between Stay and Taute.

Stay was booked into the Mille Lacs County Jail on first- and second-degree manslaughter. He was then released on $10,000 bail. His next court appearance is set for May 24.

The investigation is ongoing.
