Mild Weather Pushes Back Pond Hockey Championships

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The organizers of the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships have pushed back the tournament dates due to unseasonably warm weather in Minnesota.

The organizers announced Tuesday that the championships will now take place from Jan. 28-31 on Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis.

The tournament was originally slated to start on Jan. 14, but due to the mild winter weather, sufficient ice hasn't been able to form on Nokomis.

Organizers say they need 10 inches to support the players, spectators and heavy equipment.

For teams that can't attend the rescheduled tournament, organizers say their registration and payment will be honored for the 2017 championships.
