Michele Bachmann Compares Obama To Germanwings Pilot On Facebook

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Michele Bachmann did not seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, but she is still offering her thoughts on the political scene via her verified Facebook account.

In a post on Tuesday, Bachmann compared the performance of President Barack Obama to that of the pilot who authorities believe deliberately crashed Germanwings Flight 9525 in the French Alps last week.

"With his Iran deal, Barack Obama is -- for the 300 million souls of the United States -- what Andreas Lubitz was, for the 150 souls on the Germanwings flight -- a deranged pilot flying his entire nation into the rocks," Bachmann said.

She was commenting on President Obama's negotiations with Iran over limiting its nuclear program. Suggesting an apocalypse, writing: "After the fact, among the smoldering remains of American cities, the shocked survivors will ask, why did he do it?"

Those comments inflamed social media -- not just that Bachmann suggested the president is deranged, but also because she used a devastating human tragedy for politics.

But it's not the first time Bachmann has been under fire for controversial remarks. She once said the American media should investigate members of Congress to find out if they are "pro-America" or "anti-America."

She said the musical "The Lion King" was gay propaganda.

And Bachmann claimed the HPV vaccine for girls could cause "mental retardation."

Bachmann left office in 2015, but she manages to stay in the public eye with occasional controversial comments.

She also got a speaking role in the upcoming cult movie "Sharknado 3."
