SE Mpls. Apt. Evacuated In Hazardous Chemical Scare
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Update, 8:20 p.m., April 10: A preliminary investigation shows the substances found in a Marcy-Holmes apartment were not hazardous materials.
Minneapolis police continue to investigate the apartment unit where a man collapsed. But all other residents have been allowed to return to their apartment units.
Original story, 6 p.m., April 10: A man was taken to the hospital after being exposed to hazardous chemicals at his apartment in Minneapolis' Marcy-Holmes neighborhood Friday morning.
Minneapolis Police say the apartment, on the 500 block of 6th Street Southeast, was evacuated due to the possible hazardous materials.
An EMS crew responded to a medical call at the building at about 8 a.m. They noticed unknown chemicals at the scene while they were preparing to take the victim to the hospital.
Hazardous material crews worked for hours to deal with the unknown chemicals.
Police say they are interviewing the man at the hospital.
A Metro Transit bus was at the scene to provide shelter for evacuees as hazmat crews investigated.
