Metro Transit Celebrates Green Line's 1st Year With Weekend Closures
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Metro Transit is excited about the continued success of the Green Line.
Sunday marks its one-year anniversary, so Metro Transit will distribute commemorative buttons along the way on Monday.
Dozens of businesses will offer promotional deals all throughout the week to anyone wearing the button.
The Green Line connects the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul. There are 23 stations along the route with an average of 35,000 riders per day.
But not everyone will feel like celebrating this weekend, when parts of the light rail track will be closed for maintenance and construction.
Starting at 7 p.m. Friday, trains will be suspended between Target Field and Stadium Village at the University of Minnesota.
Light rail service is closed on the Blue Line between the Target Field and Franklin Avenue stations.
That means buses will replace the trains this weekend, and will run on a similar schedule -- but commutes will take a little longer.
Metro Transit will be working on the tracks through Sunday night.
