METRO Green Line Prepares For Grand Opening

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Metro Transit Green Line is a week away from taking passengers between St. Paul, Minn. and Minneapolis.

It took a final test-run down the tracks Saturday.

The 11-mile line starts at St. Paul's Union Depot and will take riders to the Target Field Station in downtown Minneapolis.

MetCouncil hopes the $957 million investment of the rail line will help boost business along the tracks.

A ride between the two downtown areas will take about 50 minutes, about 15 minutes longer than the bus system.

One thing the operator wants pedestrians to know is be aware of your surroundings.

The METRO Green Line officially opens at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14.

There will be community celebrations at nine stations along the route.

All next weekend, people will also be able to ride any metro transit service for free.
