Mental Health Exam Ordered For Mpls. Man Accused Of Killing His Baby

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A judge has ordered a Minneapolis father accused of killing his infant daughter to have a mental health exam.

Twenty-one-year-old Cory Morris is accused of fatally beating 4-month-old Emersyn last weekend. He's charged with second-degree murder in Hennepin County District Court where he made an appearance Wednesday.

A criminal complaint says Morris told investigators he punched his baby more than 20 times and squeezed her chest because the infant was making noises while he watched TV.

Morris was arrested at his duplex Saturday. Police say his hands and shirt were covered in blood. A search warrant says he called the girl's mother who was at work to tell her that he had hit the baby.

Morris remains in custody on $2 million bail. Another court appearance is scheduled September 20.
