Memorial Service Held For American Who Died Of Ebola

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A memorial service was held Saturday for an American citizen and Liberian government official who died of Ebola.

Patrick Sawyer died in late July after contracting the disease in Liberia.

He was taking care of his sister, who unknowingly had the disease.

The memorial service was held in Brooklyn Center, Minn.

His wife, Deconetee Kofa Sawyer, launched the Kofa Foundation to eradicate Ebola and assist families of victims.

She asked attendees to bring medical supplies--gloves, masks, hand sanitizer--that will be donated to fighting Ebola in Liberia.

Sawyer worked as a diplomat in Libera.

He had been planning to travel back home in August to see his family in Coon Rapids, Minn.

Sawyer leaves behind a wife and three daughters.
