Memorial Held For Teacher Shot Dead In Mahtomedi

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A memorial mass was held Monday morning for a popular teacher and businessman who was shot to death in January.

David Frigaard, 46, was killed in Mahtomedi after leaving the bar he owned. Investigators believe 19-year-old Bailey Garcia was the one who shot Frigaard.

Investigators say Garcia had been drinking before he shot Frigaard at an intersection. Attorneys said Garcia has a history of psychiatric problems. He faces second-degree murder charges.

Frigaard was an art teacher at Park High School in Cottage Grove, and served as an at-risk program teacher, an advisor for the gay-straight alliance. He also coached football, basketball and track over the years.

His memorial this morning was at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Roseville.

He leaves behind a wife and three children.
