4 Things To Know: Memorial Day Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Here's a look at the four things you need to know for Sunday, May 29, 2016.

Number One: Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day will hold extra special meaning for people in Willmar.

This week, the community welcomed home Navy Machinist Mate 1st Class John Anderson -- 72 years after his death.

Anderson died during the D-Day invasion in Normandy.

A Willmar man, with the help of Sen. Amy Klobuchar, got the Navy to do DNA testing on a body buried in an unmarked grave in France.

Following a public memorial with full military honors on Saturday, Anderson is now buried near his family.

Number Two: Severe Storms

In Kansas, authorities will continue searching for the body of an 11-year-old boy swept away into a flooded creek.

He is one of three still missing after torrential rains hit Kansas and Texas.

The rain totaled more than 16 inches in some spots. Four are confirmed dead, and the danger now is from rising waters, rather than severe storms.

In the Carolinas, Tropical Storm Bonnie has ruined the long weekend.

Heavy rain and strong winds continue for the storm, which made landfall Sunday near Charleston.

Number Three: Indy 500

Today is the 100th racing of the Indianapolis 500, and it's a sellout.

Some 350,000 people are expected to pack the stands at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

And big crowds have gathered throughout the city for days leading up to the 100th race.

Number Four: Twins Win 3rd Game Straight

The Twins won with an incredible defensive play overnight.

Bottom of the ninth, Twins up by one, and the Mariners had runners on first and third. There was a wild pitch, a double steal attempt, and double-play tag-out.

The Twins can also thank home runs by Miguel Sano, Eduardo Nunez and Joe Mauer for the 6-5 win.

Minnesota has now won three games in a row.

Game three against Seattle is slated for Sunday afternoon.
