MDOR: Eagan Man Charged With 28 Tax-Related Crimes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An Eagan man is facing 28 counts of tax related crimes, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

According to the MDOR, the Dakota County Attorney's Office charged Stephen Edward Matters with 28 tax-related crimes.

Matters has been charged with four counts of failing to file income tax returns, four counts of failing to pay income tax, four counts of failing to file sales tax returns, five counts of failing to pay sales tax, three counts of failing to file withholding tax returns, three counts of failing to pay withholding tax and one count of making retail sales after revocation of a permit.

The complaint states Matters did not file returns or play income tax from 2011 through 2014. Matters also failed to file returns or pay sales tax for his business, Matters Maintenance Group Inc., during the same time.

Additionally, after have his sales tax permit revoked, Matters continued to operate his business.

According to the complaint, Matters failed to pay more than $54,000 in all.

Matters faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both for each count.
