MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Health is investigating a possible outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness at a Minnetonka elementary school.

Health department officials say at least 46 students and four staff members at Groveland Elementary School were out sick on Thursday.

On Friday, 21 more students stayed home sick. The school district has not been informed if any of the sick students and staff have been hospitalized.

The source of the possible outbreak has not yet been pinpointed, according to the health department. Groveland Elementary has brought in extra custodial staff to help disinfect the building.

A second round of disinfecting and cleaning took place Friday afternoon at the school.

Officials from the city of Minnetonka and Hennepin County are assisting the health department with the investigation.
