McFadden Takes Aim At Franken In Hockey TV Ad

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Mike McFadden is taking aim at Democratic incumbent Al Franken in a hockey-themed cable television ad.

Instead of opening with a soft biography, McFadden's first campaign ad shows a hockey player shooting pucks at a net — and missing — while an announcer faults Franken for his votes on spending, taxes and "Obamacare."

"For Minnesota, it was miss after miss after miss," the announcer says.

McFadden then skates up with a hockey stick and says Minnesota needs "someone who's going to shoot straight in Washington."

Campaign spokesman Tom Erickson says the ad buy is $9,800 over 10 days. The ad starts running Thursday on Twin Cities cable TV.

In response, Minnesota DFL Party Chair Ken Martin says McFadden hasn't shot straight with Minnesotans on the issues.
