Mayo Clinic's Sports Medicine Center Opens In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Mayo Clinic's new Sports Medicine Center is celebrating its opening in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday.

Dr. John Finnoff with the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center was one of the people instrumental in bringing the facility to the Twin Cities. The facility is open to people of all ages and athletic abilities. He said there is still some construction happening on the outside of the building, but they are open and ready for business.

Finnoff said the Mayo Clinic already has in the 10s of thousands of patients that call their facility home. The Minneapolis building provides all the Mayo Clinic services, mainly when it comes to sports medicine. It's located in Block E, and one of their biggest services is sports performance programs.

They're the preferred medical provider for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, and the Mayo Clinic will also promote health and wellness in the sports medicine area. The main services include injury prevention, diagnosis and treatment and comprehensive sports medicine as well as performance, Finnoff said.

It's a major facelift for Block E, which had several bars and other businesses shut down and became vacated.

It's a big development for those looking for top-notch care and not wanting to have to drive to Rochester to get it. In addition to their programs, Finnoff said they have one of the top MRI machines in the sports medicine industry.
