Murder Charges Filed In Mason City Shooting

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A man suspected of shooting to death a 19-year-old woman in Mason City has been charged with first-degree murder.

Court records say 60-year-old Larry Whaley was charged Monday. He remained in Cerro Gordo County Jail on Tuesday. Efforts by The Associated Press to reach his attorneys were not successful.

Authorities say Whaley used a handgun to shoot Teeter once in the head a little before 4 a.m. Friday at his Mason City home. She died Sunday at a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Authorities haven't released information about any motive or said what investigators think led to the shooting.
