Maple Grove Boys Hockey Coach Resigns After DWI Charges

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (AP) — The varsity boys hockey coach at Maple Grove High School has resigned after being charged with drunken driving in a boat incident involving several minors.

Tom Starkey announced his resignation Tuesday. Osseo Area Schools spokeswoman Barbara Olson said the school will work to hire an interim coach for the season and then hire a permanent coach.

Starkey was arrested Sept. 5 for driving a boat with more than 0.08 blood alcohol content. He was charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated and likely will face a one-year jail sentence.

The Star Tribune wasn't able to reach Starkey for comment Wednesday.
