Mankato Writer Releases Horror Fiction Publication

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — An English instructor at Minnesota State University instructor has produced a literary magazine that focuses on the horror genre.

Colin Scharf teamed up with a fellow writer based in Colorado to release "Spooklights," which was published in August. The publication features nine short stories, including one by Scharf, based on horror and supernatural fiction. Two of the other stories were written by his partner, Jon Raab, whom he went to middle school with. The other submissions were submitted through social media.

Scharf says the things that scare people often contain the same elements that make for great stories.

The pair hopes to release a second volume in the spring.
