Man Who Failed To Arrive At Prison Gets Extra Year

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A judge says a Minnesota man who was sentenced to a year in prison in a North Dakota drug case must serve another year for failing to show up at the prison.

Joseph Bellanger, of Naytahwaush, Minn., was originally sentenced in June to a year in prison after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting the distribution of a controlled substance. He was ordered to self-report to prison in August, but failed to show up.

The 37-year-old Bellanger was apprehended by U.S. marshals in October. A judge last month denied his request to be released to attend his nephew's funeral.
