Man Shot Dead Outside N. Mpls. Market Identified

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old Minneapolis man who was shot and killed in north Minneapolis Friday has been identified.

Police say an altercation began inside the North Side Food Market on the 3500 block of Lyndale Avenue North at about 9:30 p.m.

It then moved onto the sidewalk where one person was shot. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

"This is not believed to be a random incident," police spokesman John Elder said. "The individuals appear to have known each other. Again, we don't have any reason to believe that these people are upset with anybody other than each other."

On Monday, the Hennepin County Medical Center identified the victim as Givontae Walker. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police are investigating and still searching for the suspect.
