Man Shares The Power Of 'Good Morning' Downtown

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some days starting your morning can just be tough. Even the walk from your car to the office can be stressful.

But for several years now, one man has taken it upon himself to try and lift people's spirits every day. Every morning, at the corner of 7th Street South and Nicollet Mall, for one hour Walter Lenoir does his part to make the world a better place.

Though a man of faith who carries a bible with him, Lenoir says he is not a street preacher. He never asks for or receives any money.

"I'm not out here to challenge nobody and their beliefs. I'm just here to pass on joy to people that come by," he said.

Many people seem to appreciate the kind words. He says there's nothing better than seeing how he's changed someone's morning. Of course, not everyone's a fan. Lenoir's had people get in his face, and others ignore him.

"I don't get discouraged when I don't get feedback. I just keep doing what I'm doing," he said.

Lenoir has been at this for three years with no plans to stop. He's says you really can't when your mission comes from something bigger than all of us.

"The world is so dark and I just try to bring a little joy to the world and the people that pass me by," he said.

After standing out there each morning, Lenoir goes to his full-time job. He's a deacon at Unity Temple Church of God and Christ in Brooklyn Center.
