Man Run Over, Killed By Semi Tow Truck In Stearns County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 45-year-old St. Cloud man is dead after a disabled semi-sized tow truck rolled over him in St. Joseph Tuesday, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 4:07 p.m., the sheriff's office responded to the report of a man run over by a semi-truck at Protech Repair, located at 32653 County Road 2. Upon arrival, emergency responders found an unresponsive man and attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.

The victim, identified as Christopher John Clavin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed that Clavin was a tow truck driver for Collins Brothers Towing in St. Cloud. He was sent to Protech to tow a disabled tow truck, which is also owned by Collins Brothers Towing.

Workers at Protech said they saw Clavin connecting both tow trucks to prepare the tow. At one point, workers heard a shout and when they went to check on Clavin, they discovered that the disabled tow truck had rolled back over Clavin. They attempted CPR and called 911.

The incident remains under investigation.
