Man Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend To Death

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 49-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend.

Kevin Scott Evans entered the plea Monday morning in Ramsey District Court for the Dec. 28, 2014 stabbing death of Miranda Rae Schunk in her St. Paul apartment.

Schunk had obtained an order for protection against Evans a little over a week prior to her death.

Schunk told police she got the order for protection because she ran into Evans at a library, where he punched her in the face before fleeing. According to the criminal complaint, Evans had been contacting a friend of the woman's who lives in the apartment building, trying to reach the woman, on Dec. 27. He threatened to slit the woman's throat and put a bullet in her head.

Police arrived at Schunk's apartment on Dec. 28 to find her lying on a hallway floor in a pool of blood. She was taken to the hospital, where she eventually died of her injuries.

Sentencing has been scheduled for Feb. 13. It is expected that Evans will be sentenced to over 36 years in prison.
