Man Pleads Guilty To Fatally Shooting Neighbor's Dog

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A rural Winona County man is pleading guilty to killing his neighbor's dog.

Dale Orville Douglas, 46, entered Monday a petition to plead guilty to one felony charge of mistreating animals.

Douglas had been initially charged with two counts of mistreating animals, following a February incident where he was accused of fatally shooting his neighbor's beagle with a pellet gun.

His guilty plea would dismiss one of the charges, per an agreement between prosecutors and Douglas' attorney.

At a sentencing slated for Sept. 9, Douglas' attorney will argue for three years of supervised probation for his client, but no jail time.

Prosecutors, on the other hand, will ask the judge to sentence Douglas to 10 days in jail.
