Man Pleads Guilty In Woman's Methadone OD Death

STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) — A Cottage Grove man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for a woman's fatal methadone overdose.

Washington County Attorney Pete Orput said Friday that 20-year-old Adam David Wickard pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter. Wickard was immediately sentenced.

According to the complaint, Wickard and the 20-year-old Cottage Grove woman were at a party Dec. 14 and left to go to a restaurant. People at the party said the woman appeared "sleep drunk" when she returned with Wickard.

Wickard was afraid the woman was dead when he woke up the next morning. But instead of calling 911, he went to a job interview.

The medical examiner determined the woman died of "methadone toxicity." Methadone is a powerful drug used to treat addictions to narcotic drugs, such as heroin.
