Man Hits Tow Truck On Icy I-94, Is Killed

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) -- A Minnesota man was killed on an icy Interstate 94 in southeastern North Dakota when his vehicle collided with a tow truck that had stopped to pull other vehicles out of the ditch.

The Highway Patrol did not immediately identify the 40-year-old man from Cokato, Minnesota. The patrol says he lost control of his car about mid-day Wednesday near Valley City and it rear-ended the tow truck parked on the shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver was not in the vehicle at the time and was not hurt.

Authorities say the truck had its emergency lights on as it worked to remove vehicles from the ditch that had been involved in an earlier crash.
