Man Hit By Train, Killed In North Metro; Officials Investigating

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man walking train tracks northwest of the Twin Cities metro Monday afternoon died when he was hit by a train, officials say.

The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office says the man was walking just north of the intersection of 192nd Avenue and Zebulon Street in Big Lake Township.

A northbound Northstar train struck and killed the man, who has not been identified. The gate arms at the intersection had been lowered prior to the incident, the sheriff's office said.

The train stopped shortly after striking the man. Buses and other trains brought Northstar's passengers to their destinations.

Metro Transit Police are currently assisting the sheriff's office in investigating the incident.
