Man Goes Overboard, Dies While Sailing On Lake Michigan

RACINE, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a Wisconsin man has died after he went overboard while sailing on Lake Michigan.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office says it got a call around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday about a vessel in distress on the lake.

The initial investigation shows 62-year-old Greg Jackson of Middleton was sailing the 44-foot Catalina and had been working on an issue with the sail toward the boat's bow. A short time later, his friend noticed Jackson was in the water.

The friend, 63-year-old Thomas Hausenbauer of St. Peter, Minnesota, pulled Jackson into the boat, but was unable to sail the boat to dock in the Racine Harbor.

The U.S. Coast Guard was called to help bring the boat to shore. Jackson was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
