Man Gets 30 Years In Prison In Minn. Student's Death

PHOENIX (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the beating death of his girlfriend, an Arizona State University student from Minnesota.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 23-year-old Luis Soltero was given a 25-year prison term for second-degree murder Friday plus a consecutive five-year sentence for kidnapping.

He will be on lifetime probation after prison.

The body of 19-year-old Rebecca Kasper was found in Soltero's Tempe apartment in April 2013.

Soltero went to a police station to report Kasper's death and gave officers her Minnesota driver's license.

Officers went to the apartment and found Kasper's body in the bathtub, covered with blankets and a rubber mat.

Police say Kasper had blunt force trauma to the head and face. A dumbbell with blood on it was found near the bathtub.
