Man Found Guilty Of Shooting 3 Women 26 Times At Birthday Party

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 21-year-old Minneapolis man was found guilty Tuesday of shooting three women at a birthday party last July, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's office.

Delonte Ahshone Thomas is guilty of one count of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder for a shooting on July 9, 2014, in north Minneapolis.

The criminal complaint says Thomas was upset that a woman shot down his suggestion for the party goers to singing "Happy Birthday" to his girlfriend at a man's outdoor birthday party on the 3500 block of Fremont Avenue North.

Thomas left the party, but came back about 20 minutes later with a semi-automatic gun. He ran into the backyard and fired several shots in the direction of the woman, striking her nine times.

A second female victim also suffered nine gunshot wounds, and a third was shot eight times. All three victims survived.

He will be sentenced on July 20.
