Man Found Dead In Hotel Pool Went In After Hours, Hotel Says

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — A Duluth hotel says a Twin Cities man who drowned in its swimming pool was in the pool after it closed for the evening.

In a statement, the Radisson Hotel Duluth-Harborview says the man was a hotel guest and had gained unauthorized access to the pool.

The hotel says his companions discovered the man and alerted hotel staff. The staff took action, and first responders arrived minutes later.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and Duluth police responded early Sunday after the 22-year-old man was found unresponsive in the pool. He was pronounced dead at a Duluth hospital. The sheriff's office identifies the victim as Nathan Timothy Fihn of Newport.

Authorities say alcohol appears to be a contributing factor.
