Man Apparently Drowns Assisting Tubers On Red Cedar River

MENOMONIE, Wis. (AP) — A man who was assisting a group of tubers on the Red Cedar River has died after he was found not breathing in the water.

Authorities say the incident happened Monday at a boat landing in the town of Dunn.

The Dunn County Sheriff's Office says the man went into the river at the landing with a tube and was trying to help a group of tubers. He was found unconscious in the water and wasn't breathing.

Other people who had gotten out of the river at the end of their tubing trip started CPR.

The man was taken to an Eau Claire hospital by helicopter. He died at the hospital.

His name hasn't been released.
