Man Dies After Canoe Capsizes On Madison Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 39-year-old man is dead after the canoe he was traveling in capsized, according to authorities.

Blue Earth County Sheriff deputies responded to the call of a capsized canoe around 11:05 p.m. Saturday on Madison Lake, near the Boat Landing bar.

When authorities arrived, they spoke with 30-year-old Michael Grissom, of Madison Lake, who said he and Rahmondo Moore were traveling in a canoe, headed to Point Pleasant Resort when the canoe capsized and they fell into the water.

Grissom was able to swim to shore to call for help.

Rescue workers searched for Moore and eventually located his body around 1:55 a.m. Sunday. His cause of death is believed to be a drowning.

At this point, it is unknown what caused the canoe to capsize. Police say alcohol was likely involved in the incident. Both men were not wearing life preservers.
