Man Charged In North Mpls. Fatal Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 37-year-old man is charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder in a shooting that left another man dead, according to the Hennepin County Attorney.

Demiteras Al Cooper will make his first court appearance on Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of 32-year-old Johnathon Harris inside a home on the 2000 block of Hillside Avenue North.

Authorities responded to the scene around 2:30 a.m. last Friday and upon arrival, found Harris dead inside the residence, according to the complaint.

Investigators say Cooper, Harris and another man went to a bar for drinks and eventually, Cooper and the other man left the bar without Harris. The two men allegedly fought as they drove to the Hillside address, where the other man went in and Cooper drove away.

About a half hour later, Cooper returned to the home with one of his relatives. By then, Harris had returned to the home from the bar. Investigators say an argument began and Cooper's relative shot Harris and both men fled the scene.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office determined Harris' death was a homicide, as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
