Man Arrested In String Of Metro Area Robberies

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police have arrested a man who has confessed to more than a dozen armed robberies in the metro.

Robert Lee, 23, is charged with robbing the Walgreens at 46th and Hiawatha on Monday. Witnesses saw him get on a metro transit bus after the robbery. They called police who arrested Lee on the bus.

Police say he robbed five places on New Year's Eve, and has been hitting SuperAmerica locations and drug stores across the metro ever since.

"He was targeting not only money, but drugs themselves," Minneapolis Police Officer John Elder said. "And what happens when those drugs leave the store are an additional concern. This is a very prolific robber and we're very, very happy to get him off the streets."

Police say Lee confessed to another 13 robberies in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Brooklyn Center. Those incidents are also being investigated.
