Man, 35, Dies 2 Days After Independence Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 35-year-old St. Michael man died two days after being hit by a suspected drunken driver in Independence Thursday.

Just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, police were dispatched to Highway 12 and County Road 92. Officers tell WCCO a car was trying to turn left onto northbound 92 when it was rear-ended by a motorhome pulling a trailer at 55 mph.

The motorhome flipped over and passersby pulled out two people, a married couple, from inside the vehicle. They're expected to be OK.

The man in the car, identified as Paul Dahlstrom, had to be airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries. Dahlstrom died Saturday from his injuries, which were described as blunt force head and neck injuries.

The male adult driver of the motorhome is suspected of drunken driving. West Hennepin Public Safety is investigating.
