Man, 26, Facing Charges In Cass Lake Bank Robbery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Cass Lake man is facing charges of theft after allegedly robbing a bank Thursday.

According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, shortly after 9:30 a.m. authorities responded to a call of a suspicious man, later identified as 26-year-old Rex Basswood Jr., causing a disturbance at the Western Bank, located in the 200 block of Second Street NW.

Upon arrival, officers found Basswood leaving the bank. He fled on foot and a pursuit ensued.

According to the sheriff's office, a short time later police were able to catch up to Basswood. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Further investigation found that he stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank before he fled.

Basswood is currently being held at the Cass County Detention Center and awaiting formal charges.

The incident is currently under investigation.
