Mall Of America Opens First Ice Skating Rink

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Mall of America is celebrating the opening of its first ice skating rink.

On Saturday morning, mall officials unveiled the new custom-built ice rink, which is located at the north entrance and is built around the iconic North Star sculpture.

"It's all about just having fun and creating memories and really just enhancing the overall experience at Mall of America during the holidays, and hopefully this is something we can look at for years to come," said Jill Renslow, senior vice president for business development at Mall of America.

The ice rink will stay open until the end of January.

It's free to skate if you have your own skates or $5 to rent a pair. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities.
