Mahtomedi High School reschedules homecoming football game following safety concerns

Mahtomedi High School homecoming game canceled due to law enforcement activity nearby

Mahtomedi High School has rescheduled its homecoming football game after having to cancel it Friday night due to "law enforcement activity" near the school's campus, according to the district.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said they received a call about a kidnapping related to robbery near the 7300 Block of Inwood Way in Grant, Minnesota, around 5 p.m. When they arrived, they found three uninjured victims.

Police say two suspects were involved. In a social media post, the sheriff's office said the men were armed. The area law enforcement members were searching was just down the road from the Mahtomedi High School.

The sheriff's office advised residents Friday night to shelter in place, and for Mahtomedi High School to cancel its game. Electronic tickets for the game will be refunded, according to a social media post by Mahtomedi Public Schools.

Officials said they have not taken the suspects into custody at this time and are asking residents in the area not to approach the suspects, as they are believed to be armed and dangerous. They are asking anyone who may see or hear anything suspicious to call 911.

On Saturday, officials said they do not believe the initial incident was random. They added that they no longer believe the suspects to be in the area.

The FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting the Washington County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.

Bloomington's Kennedy High School on Monday forfeited its scheduled game against Mahtomedi.
