Report: Macy's Considering Closing Downtown Minneapolis Store

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A landmark department store in downtown Minneapolis may soon close its doors.

According to a report from the Star Tribune, Macy's is considering shutting down its flagship store on Nicollet Mall. The paper reports Macy's is in negotiations with at least one potential buyer of the 1-million-square-foot retail building, and could transform the space into offices.

Earlier this summer, Macy's announced it would be shuttering around 100 stores nationwide and focusing investments into online shopping. Last month, the department store chain named 11 stores that would be undergoing renovations. The Nicollet Mall building was not on that list.
